Mayumi Yamashita

keramik
30 september – 21 oktober 2017

För andra gången har vi möjlighet att visa Mayumi Yamashitas fina keramik från Japan i våra fönster.

Mayumi Yamashita was born and grew up in the smallest coastal area (Kagawa) in south-west Japan. She studied fashion design and worked as a seamstress and an assistant of Japanese traditional fabric dyer. In 2009, she moved to UK to study contemporary crafts and graduated with first class honours in the course at Falmouth University in 2012. She’s set up own studio in her home town and works as ceramicist since then.

Mayumi is passionate about ‘colours’ and their ‘combination’. The colours and texture of her pottery is hugely inspired by Japanese woodblock print (ukiyoe) and natural dyed fabrics and wools. Her work is also influenced by her Japanese back ground and the education in the UK which allows her to create a fusion between ‘contemporary’ and ‘traditional’ pottery. She’s been seeking a balanced way to bring all these elements together in her work as design, technique, material and as concept, hoping that her pottery would fit nicely into any life styles.
